Rugged Outdoors puts you in real life nature and survival situations where you will learn useful and potentially lifesaving tips from a trained guide. Good singles and groups of 2-8. Suitable for beginners.

This retreat will take place in the Sierra Nevadas, offering views of Mt. Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous United States, and home to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. Over the weekend, you will learn how to build a shelter, start a campfire safely without matches or a lighter, navigate by the stars, and more. During this retreat, you will experience the basics of outdoor survival is a low-stakes environment and learn tricks from an experienced guide.

What’s Happening

Day 1

Your day will start 12PM, with a welcome lunch and introductions. You will have the next few hours to explore your surrounds and relax.

In the afternoon, your guide will lead you through the basics of shelter building, and in groups will lead you to build your own shelter.

As the sun goes down, you will learn how to make your own fire using no lighter or matches and heat your own dinner. After dark, your guide will take you on a night hike where you will learn how to navigate by the stars.

Day 2

The day will start with fresh breakfast and coffee, followed by some personal time.

Afterwards, your guide will lean you through a group activity (depending on season) that will combine a number of survival skills.

Lastly, you’ll return to camp for a closing circle to share what you’ve learned before departing.
